Efficacy study of Abhaibhubejhr College of traditional medicine Thai herbal poultice in osteoarthritis at Botalo Sub-Distict Health Promotion Hospital, Phra Nnakhon Si Ayutthaya: a randomized open label and standard treatment controlled trial
Abstract:
The establishment of a knee mask clinic for osteoarthritis patients in Botalo Sub−district
Health Promotion Hospital, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya is a health service development plan (service plan) in the field of Thai traditional medicine and intesrated medicine which provides a clinic with comprehensive provision of Thai traditional and alternative medicine services, in fiscal year 2021-2022. This research study is a quasi−experimental study with purpose to compare the efficacy of the traditional herbal knee mask used in Abhaibhubejhr College of Thai Traditional Medicine with the anti-inflammatory drug Diclofenac in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis of 50 patients, using a randomized, non-masked, controlled trial with standard treatment. The results revealed that the knee wrap with traditional herbal knee wraps used in Abhaibhubejhr College of Thai Traditional Medicine has no significant difference in efficacy compared to diclofenac topical
anti−inflammatory drug at p > 0.05, and when comparing pain scores before and after the knee wraps in both experimental groups, there was a decrease. The means of efficacy of diclofenac topical group after treatment were 3.64, 2.88, 2.16 and 1.48, respectively. The mean efficacy scores for the knee-mask group with traditional herbal knee-mask used in Abhaibhubejhr College of Thai Traditional Medicine after treatment were 1.96, 0.96, 0.60 and 0.20, respectively, which differed significantly at p < 0.05. Therefore, the herbal knee mask formula used in Abhaibhubejhr College of Thai Traditional Medicine could be used instead of diclofenac topical anti-inflammatory drug It also encourages patients to receive treatment in Thai traditional medicine and alternative medicine. This could be used for further development to the product form
