A study of the melting characteristics of steel under laser engraving by the principle of gaussian laser beam profile and finite element analysis
Abstract:
This study investigates the melting behavior of steel during laser engraving using a Gaussian laser beam
profile and finite element analysis (FEA) and compares simulation results to actual measurements of the melted
surface. The objective of this study is to gain a better understanding of the laser etching procedure and its
effect on steel, which has numerous industrial applications. The research employs the principle of the Gaussian
laser beam profile to create a highly focused and uniform beam distribution that permits precise control over
the energy delivered to the material being processed. The FEA method is used to simulate heat transfer and
melt pool formation during laser etching, while a profilometer is used to measure the melted surface. The
study investigates the effects of various parameters, including laser power and steel melting behavior. Results
from the experiments demonstrate a significant correlation between laser power and the area of the melted
surface, indicating the importance of power control in achieving desired engraving area. Furthermore, the
comparison between FEA predictions and experimental measurements shows a close agreement, validating the
effectiveness of the FEA method in simulating the melting behavior. This research contributes to the
development of more productive and precise laser engraving techniques for steel processing, improving the
productivity and quality of industrial processes
