Abstract:
Wayne Shorter is considered as one of the most significant jazz composers and arrangers in jazz music history and jazz study worldwide. This study aims to present an arrangement of his composition in the rhythmical point of view. The rhythmic elements included in this study are meter-change, polyrhythm, and metric modulation. The application of these rhythmic ideas is portrayed through four selections of Wayne Shorter's music: (1) Speak No Evil, (2) Dance Cadaverous from the album "Speak No Evil," and (3) Deluge, and (4) Yes Or No from "Juju." The analysis chapter is divided into two parts. The first part is the formal analysis, which presents the rhythmic elements that are applied to all four pieces and explains how the application works on each piece. The second part is the performance practice, which explains how to perform all the rhythmic elements applied to the pieces both as a group and individually.

เวย์น ชอร์ตเตอร์ นับว่าเป็น นักประพันธ์เพลง และ นักเรียบเรียงบทเพลงที่สำคัญที่สุดคนหนึ่งในโลก งานวิจัยนี้ตั้งใจนำเสนอการเรียบเรียงเพลงของเวย์น ชอร์ตเตอร์ในแง่มุมทางจังหวะเท่านั้น องค์ประกอบทางจังหวะที่จะนำมาใช้ในงานวิจัยนี้ประกอบไปด้วยดังนี้ (1) meter-change (2) polyrhythm (3) metric modulation ซึ่งบทเพลงที่จะนำมาเรียบเรียงได้แก่ (1) Speak No Evil (2) Dance Cadavarous จาก อัลบั้ม "Speak No Evil" และ (3) Deluge (4) Yes Or No จากอัลบั้ม "Juju" ซึ่งการวิเคราะห์จะแบ่งออกเป็นได้ดังนี้ (1) Formal Analysis คือการวิเคราะห์แต่ละองค์ประกอบทาง จังหวะที่ถูกนำไปใช้เรียบเรียงบทเพลงทั้ง4เพลง และอธิบายอย่างละเอียดถึงการทำงานขององค์ประกอบนั้น ๆ (2) Performance Practice คือการอธิบายถึงการใช้งานของจังหวะที่ใช้ไปทั้งหมดเพื่อที่วงดนตรีสามารถที่จะแสดงได้อย่างคล่องตัว และมั่นใจอย่างละเอียด
