The relationship between psychological capital and social support : a case study of Thai Paralympic athletes
Abstract:
This is a survey research which aimed to study the relationship between psychological capital (PsyCap) and social support (SS). The sample group were 36 Thai Paralympic athletes who attended Paralympic games of 2016. The survey included 3 parts, personal data questionnaire, Thai-Psychological capital inventory-44 Items (TPCI-44Items), and Thai version of the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). Descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson correlation, one-way ANOVA, Stepwise and Multiple Regression were applied to the results. The results showed that psychological capital and perceived social support were slightly correlated (r = 0.28, p<0.05). Only Self-efficacy had a significant positive correlation with perceived social support (r = 0.34, p<0.05). There was no significant difference between personal data and psychological capital. Resilience was the best predictor to PsyCap. This study indicated that the sample group, world Paralympic athletes, could improve their PsyCap regardless of different personal backgrounds, while the social support could be an influential factor.
