Reflection of Chinese Culture in Chinese Appellations and Errors in Chinese Appellations of Thai Students

Abstract: This paper is based on the research on the use of Chinese appellations by third-year Chinese major students at Chiang Rai Rajabhat University, Thailand. According to the survey results, Thai students and teachers are given teaching reference suggestions for learning and using Chinese appellations. First of all, the author analyzes the data about Chinese appellation terms collected in the past 10 years, and then divides the "New HSK 5000 Word Grading Dictionary" (2014) into five categories according to the requirements of Chinese culture, and selects the most distinctive "ethnic" among them. Characteristics and category of appellation terms are classified and defined in detail. The appellation terms of the junior, middle and senior levels are screened out by sub-categories, and errors in the use of Chinese appellations by third-year Chinese major students at Chiang Rai Rajabhat University in Thailand are investigated. Finally, the survey errors results could provide suggestions for reference and improvement of Chinese appellation language teaching. The results showed that: The "New HSK5000 Word Grading Dictionary" is divided into five categories according to the requirements of Chinese culture: regional culture, national cultural characteristics, food culture, custom culture, and science and technology culture. This paper mainly selects "ethnic cultural characteristics" for detailed description. The number of specific appellations is 108. The proportion of detailed sub-categories is as follows: direct blood relatives (16.67%), collateral blood relatives (7.41%), quasi-relatives (12.04%), moral concepts (3.7%), official titles (20.37%), and no special meaning for defining identities (39.81%). The questionnaire results indicated that most of the errors in the use of Chinese appellations by Thai students are higher than 50%. Among them, there are the most errors in the use of appellations for senior moral concepts (80%) and senior pseudo-relatives (72%), while the errors in Chinese appellations for middle-level lineal blood relatives and middle-rank official titles are lower. It can be seen that Thai students have the highest awareness of official title titles. Suggestions for improvement in the teaching of Chinese teachers in Thailand and the use of Chinese appellations by Thai students are offered. （1）The Chinese teachers should consider careful selection of textbook content, diversification of teaching methods, and serving as idol for the road of education. （2）The students should consider looking for suitable learning methods, establishing correct learning concepts, and accumulating experience in practice.
