Abstract:
Rice bran oil-silver nanoparticles were prepared and characterized in an order to be applied in cosmetics. Rice bran oil and 0.05 mM AgNO3 (1:6 v/v and 1:3 v/v conditions) were allowed to react at different times (30, 45, and 60 min). The particles were characterized by UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD, SEM and DLS. UV absorbances of the reactants during 300-500 nm were increased and maximum absorbance showed at 420 nm. The conjugation between rice bran oil and AgNO3 were confirmed with FTIR as observed during 3,007 cm-1 (O-H stretching), 1,097-1,160 cm-1 (C-N stretching), 1,377-1,418 cm-1 (N-O and N=O stretching) and 1,743 cm-1 (C=O stretching). XRD pattern at 38˚ and 44˚ were shown that corresponded to silver as well as the results obtained from SEM with EDS technique. The particle size of the spherical rice bran oil-silver nanoparticles was 57-117 nm by SEM, while those resulting from DLS were 158-266 nm (PI of 0.3). Rice bran oil-silver nanoparticles were achieved in SPF (1.03-1.04) as per critical wavelengths (387-389 nm) from those of rice bran oil and AgNO3, while UVA/UVB ratios were lower. The prepared rice bran oil-silver nanoparticles were confirmed stable following accelerated stability test in terms of size and in vitro UV protections. These rice bran oil-silver nanoparticles are therefore appropriated to be applied in cosmetics as UV protectant allied with the properties of rice bran oil and silver.
