Total of 85 isolates of bacteria were isolated from cucumber root zone soil. From dual culture test on potato dextrose agar (PDA), 20 isolates of bacteria effectively inhibited mycelial growth of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cucumerinum (FOC), a causal agent of cucumber wilt by 41 -60 %. The selected antagonistic bacteria were induced for resistant to 10 ppm rifampicin antibiotic by using ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Mutant isolates of bacteria were tested for the efficacy to control cucumber wilt under greenhouse condition by soaking seeds in bacterial cell suspension (108CFU/ml) for 15 minutes before sowing in the pathogen infested soil. The results indicated that all isolates of bacteria excepted isolate SP10 provided non-significant differences in seed germination percentages as compared with carbendazim 50 SD (20 g/20 l), at 7 days after planting. Percentages of survived seedlings from all bacterial treatments were comparable to the use of carbendazim after planting for 14 days. Isolates SP7 and SP10 promoted the longer root and shoot lengths than those found in carbendazim and the control (with pathogen) treatments. The disease control efficacy testing under field condition indicated that all isolates of bacteria, excepted mutant isolate SP7(60-1) provided seed germination percentages at 7 days after planting and percentages of survived seedlings at 14 21 and 28 days after planting which were non significantly different as compared with carbendazim treatment. The mutant isolates SP2(10-3) and SP10(10-1) gave significantly lower disease indexes than the control.
