A study of the effects of harmony listening on wind instrument students to enhance music performance
Abstract:
In this dissertation, the researcher would like to investigate the effects of harmony listening of the first-year wind students (M.4), who did not have a chance to play any harmonic instruments before, and received the score of not higher than 69 percent on the aural skills exam in grade 9 from the TIME examination center. To gain the in-depth information in this study, the researcher employed a qualitative case study to do the observation, sound recording, field notes, and interview. The results from the study found that: 1) the students who practiced with RHS were unconfident to play, 2) the students who felt familiar to play with RHS could remember the feeling of characteristic of a harmony, tone color, and intonation, 3) practicing with RHS could support the wind students to have a better understanding in intonation, tone color, characteristic of a harmony, direction of a melody, and to be better in music interpretation, 4) practicing with RHS made the participants to determine the goal to practice, 5) performing with RSH made students to practice more often.
