Methods and patterns of bullying among male youth in a single-sex secondary educational institution in Bangkok

Abstract: This qualitative study aimed to analyze the methods and patterns of male children and youth bullying, to study relevant factors causing male children and youth bullying, and to analyze prevention measures of male children and youth bullying in Bangkok area. Data were collected using in-depth interview from 10 school administrators and 20 male secondary students from secondary schools affiliated with the Office of the Basic Education Commission in Bangkok area. The results showed that the methods and patterns of bullying among male high school students were in three categories: verbal bullying, physical bullying, and bullying through social media. These categories were correlated, especially when physical violence occur, such as head slapping, punching, and kicking coupled with verbal bullying, such as criticizing and cussing by using severe wording and posting images and comments on social media, which caused direct impact of humiliation and embarrassment to those who were bullied. Patterns of bullying were clearly linked. The patterns occurred sequentially from 1) approaching the target 2) performing the bullying on the target, and 3) repeating the action. The results also showed that the personality traits of students with bullying behavior were having a large group of friends, desiring to express themselves, demanding the attention, combination of both high and low GPA, lacking of learning interest, and having a bigger and taller figure than others. Personality traits of students being bullied were quiet, weak, lack of friends, and with high GPA. In addition, the students being bullied belonged to a peaceful and harmonious family. Some of bullied students were autistic children with ADHA symptom. The frequency of male high school students being bullied was likely to be substantial. Factors that caused bullying among male high school students were personal factors (basic personal factors, factors of experience with bullying others, factors of imitating bullying, factors of different fellowships), factors of family and parenting, environment factors. Preventive measures and solutions to bullying problems among male high school students must be implanted in the secondary schools.

Abstract: การวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการศึกษาวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ (Qualitative Research) โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์ 1) เพื่อวิเคราะห์ถึงรูปแบบและวิธีการการรังแกกันในเด็กและเยาวชนชายในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร 2) เพื่อศึกษาปัจจัยที่เป็นสาเหตุให้เกิดการรังแกกันในเด็กและเยาวชนชายในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร และ 3) เพื่อวิเคราะห์หามาตรการป้องกันการรังแกกันในเด็กและเยาวชนชายในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร เก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลโดยใช้ แบบสัมภาษณ์ เพื่อใช้ในการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึก (In-depth Interview) กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่เป็นผู้ให้ข้อมูลสำคัญ (Key Informants) ที่ใช้ในการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึก ได้แก่ เด็กและเยาวชนที่เป็นนักเรียนมัธยมชายในโรงเรียนมัธยมชายในเขตกรุงเทพมหานครซึ่งสังกัดสำนักงานคณะกรรมการการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐานกรุงเทพมหานคร จำนวน 20 คน และอาจารย์ฝ่ายปกครองในโรงเรียนมัธยมชายในเขตกรุงเทพมหานครซึ่งสังกัดสำนักงานคณะกรรมการการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐานกรุงเทพมหานคร จำนวน 10 ท่าน ผลการวิจัยพบว่า รูปแบบการรังแกกันมี 3 รูปแบบ ได้แก่ การรังแกกันทางวาจา การรังแกทางกายและการรังแกผ่านทางสื่อสังคมออนไลน์ และมีความสัมพันธ์กันอย่างยิ่งโดยเฉพาะเมื่อมีการใช้กำลังและความรุนแรงที่ปรากฎขึ้นทางร่างกาย เช่น ตบหัว ต่อย เตะ ประกอบกับการรังแกทางวาจา เช่น ต่อว่า ด่าทอโดยช้ำคำพูดที่รุนแรงและมีการนำภาพหรือคำพูดทางวาจามาโพสต์ผ่านทางสื่อสังคมออนไลน์ ซึ่งก่อให้เกิดผลกระทบต่อผู้ที่ถูกรังแก เช่น อับอาย ถูกล้อเลียน การรังแกกันทั้ง 3 รูปแบบนี้มีความสัมพันธ์กันอย่างชัดเจน และวิธีการในการรังแกกันของนักเรียนมัธยมชายจะมีลำดับขั้นตอนโดยเข้าหาเป้าหมาย ลงมือกระทำการรังแกต่อเป้าหมาย และ รังแกซ้ำ การวิจัยพบว่าเด็กนักเรียนมัธยมชายที่รังแกผู้อื่นจะมีลักษณะบุคลิกภาพคือ มีเพื่อนกลุ่มใหญ่ ต้องการแสดงออก มีความต้องการความโดดเด่น ผลการเรียนมีทั้งค่อนข้างต่ำและผลการเรียนดี บางคนไม่สนใจเรียนรูปร่างอาจจะตัวโตกว่า สูงกว่าเพื่อน และเด็กที่ถูกรังแกจะมีลักษณะบุคลิกภาพคือ เป็นเด็กเงียบๆ ยอมเพื่อนอ่อนแอ ไม่มีเพื่อนกลุ่มใหญ่ ความประพฤติที่โรงเรียนค่อนข้างดี ผลการเรียนค่อนข้างดี เด็กกลุ่มนี้ผู้ปกครองมักจะสั่งสอนมาว่าให้ยอมคน ไม่โต้ตอบเมื่อถูกเพื่อนรังแก และเด็กที่ถูกเพื่อนรังแกบางคนเป็นเด็กพิเศษ เช่น สมาธิสั้น เป็นต้น จำนวนความถี่ที่เด็กนักเรียนมัธยมชายมีการรังแกกันนั้นมีจำนวนมาก ซึ่งปัจจัยที่เป็นสาเหตุให้เกิดการรังแกกันในนักเรียนมัธยมชายได้แก่ 1) ปัจจัยด้านตัวบุคคลคือ ปัจจัยพื้นฐานส่วนบุคคล ปัจจัยด้านประสบการณ์ในการรังแกผู้อื่น ปัจจัยด้านการเลียนแบบการรังแกกัน ปัจจัยด้านการคบหาสมาคมที่แตกต่าง 2) ปัจจัยด้านครอบครัว และการเลี้ยงดู 3) ปัจจัยด้านสิ่งแวดล้อม โดยมาตรการในการป้องกันและแก้ไขปัญหาการรังแกกันของนักเรียนมัธยมชายมี 2 แนวทางคือ 1) แนวทางการป้องกันและแก้ไขปัญหาที่นักเรียนมัธยมชายและครอบครัว 2) แนวทางการป้องกันและแก้ไขปัญหาจากมาตรการของทางโรงเรียน
