Abstract:
This thesis has been conducted to study the concept of Pure Land Buddhism in Vietnam: The case study of the Great Pure Land Master Thích Thiền Tâm. The objectives of the research are: (1) to study Master Thích Thiền Tâms biographical works to Pure Land Buddhism in Vietnam, (2) to analyze Master Thích Thiền Tâms way of teaching and practice Pure Land Buddhism in Vietnam, and (3) to apply Master Thích Thiền Tâms way of teaching and practice Pure Land Buddhism for modern Vietnamese society. The research methodology is document research.
The result of the research shows the great Pure Land Master Thích Thiền Tâm greatly contributed to Vietnamese Buddhism in general Pure Land tradition in special through his life and works. One of the most valuable works that show his teaching and practice of Pure Land Buddhism is the book Niem Phat Thap Yeu Buddhism of Wisdom and Faith: Pure Land Principles and Practice. He also listed the ten essential points of Amitabhas recitation, which is very important for Vietnamese Pure Land practitioners. Among those ten essential points of Pure Land Buddhism, faith, vows and practice are known as the three main points of this Dharma. And these three points have to be manifested in the same time of dying moment so that the practitioners will be reborn in the Pure Land.
