The objectives were to study diversity, habitat use ofbirds and conservation guidelines in Nong Han Kumphawapi Non -hunting Area, Udonthani Province. Two survey routes were set up i.e., boat route and terrestrial route and survey was conductedonce a month, 2 times a day between 06.30 -10.00 a.m. and 03.00 -06.00 p.m. from November 2015 to October 2016 or 12 months in total. The results showed that 9 orders, 40 families, 72 genera, 102 bird species were recorded. Status of birds is classified into 3 status i.e., 1) seasonal status: 57 resident, 40 winter visitor, 1 Passage migrant, 3 breeding visitor, 1Winter visitor (less than 5 records) species. 2) According to Wildlife Preservation and Protection Act (2535) : 98 Protected and 4 non -protected bird species 3) Status under Red Data of Thailand (Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning, 2016) : 3 Vulnerable, 9 Near Threatened and 90 Least Concern species. Shannon - Wiener Index was calculated equaling to 2.80. Abundance estimation adapted from Pettingill (1970) were classified into 25 abundant, 18 common, 14 moderately common, 22 uncommon and 23 rare species. Habitat use of each species were identified : 24 species found in open water, 31 in floating plant, 35 in emergent plant and marginal plant, 30 in island, 56 in dike, and 62 in paddy field. Three main problems were identified, these were: 1) People nearby boundary do not understand and lack of knowledge to participate in conservation for birds and their habitats 2) Lacking of information for science -based management 3) Insufficient staff (ranger) efficiency. Three recommended activities are: 1) Conservation Protection and Managing birds and their habitats in collaboration with people participation 2) Studying, research and development of database to monitor birds, environmental and especiallylanduse changes for adaptive management. 3) Capacity building for staff to increase technical skill and science -based information for educational interpretation and public relations.
