The ecological study of Siamese crocodile (Crocodylus siamensis) in Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary, Chachoengsao Province was conducted from January to December 2013. The study was concentrated on population abundance, habitat use, diet and prey and active period during the daytimes. Camera trapper, direct observations and fecal analysis were applied for this study. The results showed that only one crocodile was found in the study site. Its length is approximately 3 meters long. Their habitat use was found along Ta Kao stream in the sanctuary. During the dry season (November May) the stream was transmitted with 13 water pots while crocodile maintain its staying in the big water pots from 13 ones. The common preys of the crocodile were fish (52.63 %), mammals (21.05 %) reptiles (5.26 %) and birds (2.63 %), respectively. The result from camera traps indicated that 18 species of terrestrial animals shared the habitats with the crocodile. The results from crocodile fecal analysis by microtechnique, the common prey were identified as fish 64.52%, Indochinese lutung (Trachypithecus germaini) 16.13%, rats (Rattus spp.) 6.45%, some species of bird 6.45%, Water monitor (Varanus salvator) 3.23% and Crab-eating macaque (Macaca fascicularis) 3.23%, respectively. Based on the index of selecting feeding (electivity index: Ei ), it was shown that crocodile fed on rats (Ei= 0.97) and Varanus salvator (Ei= 0.81) and it was not depended on their prey abundance in nature (Ei value < 1); and showed its feeding on birds (Ei= 0.43) and Crab-eating macaque (Ei= 0.13) which were depended on prey abundance in nature (Ei value > 0). The Siamese crocodile had its active times during 7:18-14:38 hr. The activities of 3 species, i.e. Centropus sinensis (r = 0.62), Amaurornis phoenicurus (r = 0.61) and Varanus salvator (r= 0.55) were showed the highly positive correlated with the crocodile activities. The negatively active correlation, mostly 3 species, i.e. Hystrix brachyura (r = -0.27), Paradoxurus hermaphrodites (r = -0.17) and Macaca leonina (r = -0.12) were showed as the highly negative correlated with the crocodile activities. The knowledge gains from this study can be applied for future rehabilitation of the Siamese crocodile in this sanctuary and other protected areas in Thailand.
