Abstract:
The purposes of this research were (1) to study the application of the Panca-sila or the Five Precepts in the daily life of ethnic groups in the Western, and (2) to analyze the model of the application of the Panca-sila or the Five Precepts to encourage the peaceful coexistence of ethnic groups in the Western. This research was a qualitative research using In-depth interview with 8 key informants included government heads, community leaders and village scholars in western area of Thailand according to the characteristics of the appropriate group representation from a specific randomization method then analyzed the data obtained by means of content analysis and trying to keep the original and using a group discussion with 8 qualified persons including heads of government agencies, community leaders and religious scholars from the random sampling, the data obtained by analyzing descriptive content.
The findings of this research were following;
1. The application of the Panca-sila or the Five Precepts in the daily life of ethnic groups in the Western found that (1 ) in term of life insurance, the public spiritual activities were encouraged, activities were continuously promoted to create reconciliation, and the participation process of all stakeholders was promoted in supporting the implementation of the Five Precepts Village Project, encouraging of giving according to the principle of forgiveness, encouraging of community-based activities, well-being and harmony, the encouraging of the establishment of a fund for the development of the poor or the disadvantaged, (2 ) property insurance, the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy was continuously promoted from individual, family, community and society level continuously to each other, there was a campaign for people in the community to be aware of potential dangers by helping to look after the safety of each other's assets, the government agencies must continually promoted and supported the implementation of the Five Precepts Village Project, there was a promotion of economic development at the household level in terms of agriculture and supplementary work, there was a support to organize activities that promoted unity through cooperation with government agencies, educational institutions, local government organizations, private organizations, village leaders and civil society organizations in the area, (3) in term of family insurance, family leaders conducted themselves as role models for family members, have a warm family immunity, encouraged the participation in social activities among family members, there was a constant monitoring and building of social immunity in accordance with the Buddhist way of life, the government sector was the support unit for the implementation of the Five Precepts Village Project continuously and had 100 percent support in organizing the contest of this project in order to honor the family into factual society, (4) in term of social insurance, a socially positive environment was built, community-level social activities were organized that encouraged harmony and peaceful coexistence, a critical thinking method in the use of positive words was encouraged, and (5) in term of health insurance, it was found that the family health insurance was created based on the good behavior model, and there was a continuous campaign of social activities promoting the community free of corruptions and drugs, there was a campaign to continuously teach children and youth to be aware of dangers of drugs, and established a family club for the treatment of health and immunity to drugs.
2. The model of the application of the Panca-sila or the Five Precepts to encourage the peaceful coexistence of ethnic groups in the Waste found that there was continuous promotion of reconciliation through various public spiritual activities due to the fact that at present all sectors were working together and driving the Five Precepts Village Project according to the 20-year National Strategy by emphasizing on the participation process of 3 coordination or Pavaraprinciple (Families-Temples-Government/Schools), family institute, Buddhist institute and administrative institutions and educational institutions were coordinated as network called " Good conduct in Buddhist way network" which conducted social activities using the Five Precepts Village Project as a base, with clear main activities such as the implementation of the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, promoted community health and public mental activities, etc.
