Abstract:
Knowledge integration and the Buddhist practice and social development in
this ASEAN from the research in objective No1; It is found that the Buddhist practices
in ASEAN society are (1) Making merit and offering food to monks and paying respect
to the Buddha statue each day. (2) The ordination of the Buddhists is considered to
be practicing for a long time, which is similar in ASEAN. (3) The Dhamma education
which comes in the Dhamma courses and the Dhamma non formal studies.(4) Other
practices such as Slaka Bhatta, Loi Krathong, Songkran, Dhammasavatana Day, etc., in
both areas have similar cultural practices.
From the second objective, The way of Buddhist practices and social
development in ASEAN developed according to 4 dimensions as follows: (1)
Population, namely temples, participate with communities with populations through
the joint of the religious activities. (2) Health is that temples' role. The temple's roles
are played on promoting the health of community people in the area to doctors,
nurses or public health agencies (3) Education is that the temples together with the
Buddhist monks have been organizing the Dhamma studies and the Dhamma non-
formal- studies. (4) In the employment, the temples have their areas to manage the trade to communities, so the procurements have been occurring.
From the third objective, it is found that the integration of knowledge and the
way of Buddhist practices and social development in ASEAN, such integration is found
in 2 sides are as follows (1) the process's form of integration on the way of practice
and social development are the Physical Cultivation and social dimension, population
or employment is a form of volunteer activity, the pattern of area management for
commerce and employment. In the Moral Development and social health
dimensions are to create ongoing projects in the form of undertaking the precepts for principles. There is driving the way to the health guidelines according to the principles
of the observance of the Ubosatha Precepts. In the Emotional Development and the
social dimension of health both are to bring the principles of mental training to be integrated into
every activity with the form of activities, to pray to the Buddha image daily in the morning and
evening. In the principle of the Intellectual Development and the social dimension of
education are integrated with the provision of education in principles and others than
the Dhamma curriculum, activities that promote intellectual knowledge that come in
the Dhamma practice project or ordination project, and organizing campaigns with
agencies during the festival. ( 2) Regarding the way of operating by using Buddhist
practices, it is the meeting of the guidelines for the steps of operation according to
the Buddhist practice, and synthesis of issues and an overview.
