Abstract:
This research is of three objectives: 1) to of art spaces in the city andcommunities of Lanna Province, 2) to develop art spaces in cities and communities of the Lanna Province with participation and 3) to develop urban arts areas and communities of the Lanna Province group with appropriate creative and conservation processes. This research was conducted through the action research method by producing works of art in eight local areas.
Since exploring historical, archaeological, social and cultural data and information on local arts such as painting, sculpture and architecture, it was discovered that there are archaeological sites considered to represent ancient civilizations, like Doi Wiang - Doi Wong, in the Muang district, Chiang Rai province and Wiang Bua, in tMuang district, Phayao province and significant Buddhist religious places, including Wat Phra That Hariphunchai in Lamphun province and Wat Phra That Lampang Luang in Lampang Province.
In part of the local tradition and culture, it was discovered the Wooden Parade Tradition for Supporting the Bodhi Tree, Tradition of Phra Singha Pai Parade, the Tradition of Sprinkle Water onto a Buddha Relics, The tradition of Salak Yom, the tradition of giving alms to monks with candles and local food culture. In addition, it was discovered the handicraft such as weaving and handcrafted fabrics. In terms of play arts, it was discovered the Sword Dance, Martial Art Dance and Boat Races. It was equally discovered that the people's way of life was rice farming. These bodies of knowledge are culturally unique, leading to a dialogue of villagers interrogating them to conduct a referendum on the creation of art in eight local spaces in the community.
The creation of eight works of art in the community arts area or research that supports community activities in line with society and culture are as follows:
1. Sculpture of Rice from Thung Pong, Sam-See Hot Springs of Ban Lao Phatthana, Mae Suai District, Chiang Rai Province;
2. Three - Dimensional Painting on "Salak Yom Festival: the Only Place in the World" at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Lamphun Buddhist College;
3. Sculpture of Twin Fish "Cosmographic Landscape" at Wiang Bua Art Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Phayao Campus;
4. Installation on "Mai- Kam-Bodhi: Wooden Sporting the Bodhi Tree" at Ban Tha Kham, Hod District, Chiang Mai Province;
5. Three-Dimensional Painting on "Phra-Singh-Pai Parade" at Ban Wiang Nuea. Pai District, Mae Hong Son Province.
6. Three-Dimensional Painting on "Handcrafted Fabrics" at Ton Krai district, Cho Hae Sup-district, Muang District, Phrae Province.
7. Three-Dimensional Painting on "Boat Race Named Chao-Mae-Sai- Fha" at Ban Bun Yuen, Wiang Sa District, Nan Province;
8. Three-Dimensional Painting on "Sword and Martial Arts Dance" at Lampang Luang Tai Ban, Koh Kha District, Lampang Province.
However, urban art areas and communities of the Lanna provinces with appropriate creative and conservation processes should possess activities to transfer knowledge on art in the area to the community and publicize them to create for sustainable creativity and conservation, there should be an Art Workshop, a Painting Competition, Seminar and Exchange of Arts knowledge, Art for Youth and volunteerism. In addition, there should be activities integrated with local traditions like the Great Prolong Life Ceremony, the Thai Blessing Ceremony, and activities integrated with tourism like Street Art, Cultural Street, and should be promoted via online media and public relations through mass communication.
