Investigating the relationship between the implementation of OKR and employees attitude and development
Abstract:
There is no doubt that there will be more foreign intervention and foreign investment from overseas into the Asian countries, especially in Thailand. Therefore, knowing and understanding the business framework is important, especially for SMEs, as they most likely have limited resources to reallocate. In the past decade, many organizations focus on monitoring their numerical output as it directly displays the growth of their company. However, the trend nowadays has shifted from focusing on the output of the employees to developing the employees instead. Many organizations have realized that high-quality employees are the core of the continuous and sustainable growth of the company. One of the strategic frameworks introduced to Thailand is Objectives and Key Results (OKR). This research aims to investigate the relationship between the implementation of OKR and employees attitudes and development. The relationship can be classified into 3 main aspects: 1) employee engagement 2) employee motivation, and 3) employee liberation. As a result, the OKR is found to be positively associated with employee engagement, employee motivation, and employee liberation. Regardless of personal characteristics such as age, gender, or years of working experience, the OKR plays a significant role in developing the skills and attitude of the employees. Employee engagement would come from the activity such as setting common goals for both employees and the organization, which is the strong suit of the OKR framework. Motivation and liberation of the employees are the core aspects of the OKR framework as well. These aspects allow employees to use their creativity at their best to achieve the goals for the organization. However, based on the responses of employees to the OKR framework, there is potential for development. The OKR framework relies significantly on managers to provide continuous and consistent feedback and support to employees. This would keep the staff on track so that they could reach their respective goals
