Abstract:
Clausena cambodiana Guill is found throughout South of Thailand and has been used
as vegetable and local herbal medicine to treat various diseases. The focus of this study was
to screen for antioxidant and α-glucosidase inhibitors from C. cambodiana. It was extracted
with MeOH, CH2Cl2 and hexane. The antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH radical
scavenging. The highest activity with an IC50 value of 1.377 mg/mL was found in the MeOH
extract. In addition, the extracts were studied for their α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. The
MeOH extract showed the most potent inhibition against rat intestinal maltase with an IC50
value of 10.54 mg/mL while the hexane extract demonstrated inhibitory effect against yeast
α-glucosidase with an IC50 value of 14.99 mg/mL. These results further support the
traditional use of C. cambodiana in medicine as antidiabetic drug.
