Abstract:
Guava leaf essential oil (GLE) contains many chemicals that provide the biological activities such as antibacteria, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory. The major chemical compounds in GLE are D-limonene (36.86%),
caryophyllene (18.59%), caryophyllene oxide (9.13%), α-Pinene (8.37%), and eucalyptol (7.83%), identified by GCMS. The limitations of the GLE are the low water solubility and easy to evaporate. This work aims to enhance the water
dispersion of GLE using a microemulsion system. The optimal microemulsion was obtained using a ternary phase
diagram. The tween80 mixed with propylene glycol was used as surfactant at a ratio of 2:1, with GLE as the oil phase, and the water titration method was used. Dynamic light scattering (DLS), viscometer, and conductivity were observed.
The optimal microemulsions are clear and transparent solutions even after 60 days of storage at room temperature
