Abstract:
The objectives of this independent study were to study the level of occupational stress; specifically, the influences of job characteristics and work environment on work stress experienced by academic personnel.
The samples used in this study comprised 287 academic staffs of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT). The instrument used to collect data was a questionnaire. Statistical methods used to analyze the data were percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple linear regression.
The study results showed that the sampled staff had a low level of occupational stress. Job characteristics in the dimensions of skill diversity, performance feedback, prominence of the work, freedom of work and importance of work, together with work environment in terms of security, communication, socialization, wages, job advancement, supervision, welfare and other benefits, working conditions, organizational and management aspects both had effects on work stress experienced physically, psychologically and behaviorally by RMUTT academic staff at a statistically significant level of 0.05.
