Needs and problems analysis of English language for logistics professionals at an international logistics company in Thailand
Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate the English language needs and problems of the logistics professionals at an international logistics company in Thailand. The target setting for this study was a Japanese logistics company operating business in Thailand. The respondents were 30 Thai employees working in the Trade Service Section. The research instrument used in this study was a questionnaire. The data collected from the questionnaire was processed and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) program for calculating frequency, percentages, means and standard deviation. The findings of the study indicate that the respondents needed to learn all of the four macro skills of English: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. They also needed to learn technical terms related to logistics, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation in order to perform well at work. Additionally, they reportedly encountered problems when using the four main skills of English at the workplace. The findings from this study can be beneficial to course designers who develop training courses specific to logistics professionals
