A designing of a mathematical model for container network
Abstract:
This paper proposes a mathematical model to capture the container network's flow using international trade volume. The proposed model could be regarded as anetwork flow problem with the liner ship fleet deployment (LSFD). A problem was formulated as
a mixed-integer linear programming model (MILP) minimizing the costs of the network while satisfying trade volume constraints, based on both transshipment and multi-commodity flow. Nevertheless, this study focuses onlyAsian Economies in the Indo-Pacific area to reduce
the complexity of the resulting network. We tested the model with a sample instance derived from the 2012network; the result shows that the model could be used to represent the container network and also gives some prospects of the actual container network, however, the
model seems to neglect the distribution of container flow in each country that needs furtherrefinement. Finally, the model requires accurate
input data to represent the container networkaccurately
