Abstract:
Testing properties of Dan Kwian clay on effecting the glaze of Dan Kwian pottery products. The objective was to test the properties of Dan Kwian clay affecting the glaze of Dan Kwian pottery products. By bringing Dan Kwian clay body from the production source of large entrepreneurs in Dan Kwian pottery community. To test the physical and chemical properties of the clay body compared with the standard of clay that the researcher prepared in the laboratory. The physical properties test results showed that the average shrinkage before firing (%) and the average shrinkage at 800oC (%) of the four clay types were similar. But when the test specimen was fired at a temperature of 1250 oC, the average shrinkage (%) of standard clay body was 11%, and Dan Kwian clay body M, had a shrinkage value (%) that was close to this was comparable to the standard clay body, which was 10.87%. Dan Kwian clay body D and T had shrinkage values (%) of 13.07% and 14.03%, respectively, which were greater than the shrinkage values of standard clay body. According to the results of chemical composition analysis of Dan Kwian clay body with Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF), it was found that the clay had the highest silica (SiO2) content. The clay is strong and stable when forming the product. Followed by iron oxide (Fe2O2), which gives the clay its red color. Which is the identity of Dan Kwian clay body. When the actual product made with Dan Kwian clay mold was coated with the base glaze formula point 3, it was found that the glaze formula had the ability to coat and adhere to the surface of the product very well.
