Abstract:
Background: Quality of life (QOL) as an important outcome of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and many factors are closely associated with QOL among COPD patients. This study aimed to assess QOL level and to determine the factors associated with their good QOL in Zhejiang. Methods: A cross-sectional study was used to gather information from the tertiary hospitals in Zhejiang Province with respiratory department. A validated questionnaire was used to collect the general information, environmental factors and the stage of COPD patients and treatment. The standard tool St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) was used for assess the QOL. A questionnaire was completed by the researcher in face-to-face and phone interviews. Binary logistic regressions analysis was used to detect the associations between factors and QOL at the α = 0.05 significance level. Results: A total of 420 participants were recruited into the study: The level of good QOL among COPD patients in Zhejiang province were 25.71. Six variables were found to be associated with good-QOL among COPD patients. Conclusions: Education, expense for treatment, medical insurance, airflow limitation severity, duration of illness and numbers of hospitalizations within 3 months were the factors associated with QOL among COPD patients.
