Effect of petroleum blending ratio on fuel oil properties
Abstract:
This research studies an effect of petroleum blending ratio to produce fuel oil using multiple regression analysis method. There are four petroleum blending components which are vis-breaker residue, gasoil, kerosene and long residue condensate. Each petroleum component contains four properties which are flash point, sulphur content, pour point and viscosity. These four properties are controlled in a final product to be within their specifications. According to observation on actual fuel oil specifications, there are deviations between actual and target specifications of the four properties. Using Partial Least Square (PLS), the models representing relationship between final product properties and petroleum blending components are developed having highest adjusted R2 between 83-99 percent with RMSE prediction error of 2-5 percent against multiple linear regression and stepwise regression. In this research, PLS regression is the best predictive performance and applied to find optimal blending ratio by using the Excel Solver that minimize cost with cost saving around 0.06 Million Baht per blending set, 23 percent saving of the blending cost.
