The Use of a task-based writing process to enhance student's grammatical accuracy

Abstract:
The study is aimed at examining the overall effect of the use of a task-based writing process upon the development of learners' grammatical accuracy. The experiment is intended to seek justifiable answers to two research questions: whether the model under investigation is of assistance in decreasing learners' incorrect use of grammar, and whether it promotes learners' favorable attitudes toward learning grammar. The subjects comprise twenty participants attending a fundamental English course in a university in Thailand. The instruments used for the study include a task-based writing process composed of three tasks: Unsupervised Writing Task, Supervised Writing Task and Interactive Writing Task. The data were analyzed with the use of basic statistical methods, namely, means and percentage. The analysis reveals that the task-based writing process is effective in enhancing students' grammatical accuracy. The teaching model helps decrease incorrect of grammar and promotes students' favorable attitudes toward learning grammar.
