Abstract:
The objectives of the study were to investigate the problems and the effectiveness of writing activities. The sample group comprised twenty first-year diploma students selected by means of a purposive sampling method. The activities used in the study consisted of individual, small group, and large group activities. For data collection, a behavioral observation form was employed to gather information regarding the problems in using each type of activities and an achievement test was used to determine the effectiveness of each activity. The obtained data were subsequently analyzed with the use of a basic statistic, namely, percentage. The study results indicated that the problems in using individual activities were the most serious while the problems in using small group activities were the least serious. The three activities had different levels of effectiveness. Small group activities were most effective while individual activities were the least effective.
