An Analysis of fables for our time by James Thurber
Abstract:
This independent study is to analyze James Thurber's Fables for Our Time, a collection of Thurber's humorous fables. This study focuses on moral lessons. The findings reveal that James Thurber's fables are satirical on the Americans in five topics: politics, married life, lifestyles in the twentieth century, general comments on American society and work life. The outcome of the study also indicates that James Thurber is a very professional writer as evidenced by his ability to adapt and combine the fable form and moral principles into his distinguishable short stories. Thurber also is concerned about his society. As we can see from his works, he not only wrote the short stories but also taught the reader through the implied connotation in his witty stories.
