Abstract:
Alcohol drinking among female high school trends to increase, is still an important public health problem in Thai society. This research aimed to identify factors related to alcohol drinking among female senior high school students, Chon Buri province. Three hundred and seventy three female senior high school students in Chon Buri province were recruited using the simple random technique. Research instruments included questionnaires to gather data for demographic information, alcohol drinking, stress, alcohol drinking refusal self-efficacy, attitude towards alcohol drinking, accessing to alcoholic beverages, perceived media advertising, and perceived alcohol drinking regulation. Data were collected in August, 2019. Descriptive statistics and Binary logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The results revealed that67.8 percent of female senior high school students had ever experienced in drinking alcohol and 32.2 percent had not drunk alcohol in the past life. The significant factors related to alcohol drinking among female senior high school was stress (Adjusted Odds Ratio [AOR] = 2.15, 95% CI= 1.29-3.58), alcohol drinking refusal self-efficacy (AOR = 2.60, 95% CI = 1.58-4.29), accessing to alcoholic beverages (AOR = 1.69, 95% CI = 1.01-2.82 ), offers of alcohol drinking (AOR = 1.84, 95% CI = 1.01-3.36), alcohol drinking of parental (AOR = 2.09, 95% CI = 1.16-3.78). While academic success, attitude towards alcohol drinking, peer alcohol drinking, perceived media advertising and perceived alcohol drinking regulation were not significantly related to alcohol drinking. The findings suggested that nurses and other health care providers who are responsible for students in schools could apply these results to develop activities/ programs to reduce alcohol drinking behavior among high school students by focusing on their self-efficacy, accessing, and offers of alcohol drinking
