Abstract:
The elderly have more longevity. Faced with social conditions. The economy and environment change. Have health problems. Not only physical health. Mental health is also a problem. The study sought to identify the relationship between self-esteem and mental health status among the elderly. The sample consisted of 200 elderly people in Wang Taku District, Nakhon Pathom Province. Data collected through structured interviews. And analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation and Pearsons product momen correlation coefficient. The results showed that most of the elderly were female (61.5%) with mean age 69.98+-7.52 years. Highest Graduation Level (65.0%) Marital status (70.5%) and morbidity (83.0%). Most elderly self-perceived high self-esteem. Average score was 81.0% of full score. Full and complete mental health status at a very good level. Scoring is a percentage. 84.5 of the full score. Self-esteem and well-being are positively correlated. Pearsons correlation coefficient .223 was statistically significant P<0.01. Should be studied on other factors. This will affect the mental health of the elderly, such as the economic environment.
