Abstract:
The objective of this research is to study the grammatical features of 1,150 Pali andSanskrit loan words in the Phrapathom Sombhodhi Katha, and then draw them back for analysisof changing in the grammatical features of nouns, verbs, and indeclinable participles as framed inthe Pali and Sanskrit Grammar, and in Thai grammar of Phaya Upakitsilapasara to indicate howthey are similar and different. The output of this research is to present as follows:The findings were found that the grammatical features being unchanged werenumbers, persons, ease, tense, mood, and voice, but the changeable ones were just only genderand ending. They were summarized as followed;929 nouns loan words were found that there were proper nouns and commonnouns being feminine and neuter genders. If the proper nouns being mascu1ine gender were alivethings, their gender would not be changed, if not, their gender would be changed as neuter gender. But if the common noun loan words being masculine gender were alive things, their genderwould be changed as none gender,The words ended with the following vowels: a. i, i, u, were found that theirending was not changed. But the words ended with the vowel "a" were changed in 4 features i.e.they were changed from light sound vowel to heavy sound vowels, and from short sound vowelsto long sound vowels. The vowel sound was cut off to have consonant spelled at the endingsyllable, and the consonant sound was cut off to be ended up with the mute mark.121 words borrowed from Pali and Sanskrit were found that there were manywords to be borrowed such as roots, participles, and non-finite verbs, but the finite verbs were notfound. So, tense, mood, number, and voice were not changed. But 100 indeclinable participleswere found that 2 participles were borrowed and the rammatical features were not changed, while the mixing indeclinable participles being nouns, participles, non-finite verbs, and finite verbs, were changed in their grammatical features as well as the group of nouns and verbs as mentioned above. From the findings as mentioned above it can be concluded that it is realized how the grammatical features have been changed, and understood very well how to borrow the words from the roots, nouns, participles, and non-finite verbs. But the words being unable to borrow are the words mixed or added with prefix and suffix syllables. Moreover it is very clearly understood that the loan words such as participles can be changed as noun, verb, and adverb respectively according to the position and duty in Thai language.
