Abstract: In Thailand, English is used as an international language. More importantly, many schools and universities in Thailand require English competency for communicating in organizations because there are international programs. This may be a reason for improving English skills for Thais especially academic support staff in universities that have to use English to work with foreign lecturers and students. This research aimed to determine the needs and proficiency for English development of academic support staff in a university. The objective of this study was to investigate the difficulty in English learning of academic support staff and to find out the needs and proficiency for English language development. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program was applied to analyze the collected data to be presented in the form of descriptive statistics for percentage, mean score and standard deviation .The findings in this research showed that the respondents faced problems concerning the four English skills and they wanted to develop listening and speaking skills to work with foreign lecturers and students efficiently
