Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to study and compare the synonymous compound words between Central Thai and Isan Dialect on the structure, the function, the origin, and the lexical meaning. These synonymous compound words had gathered from Central Thai dictionary and Isan Dialect dictionaries. The data gathering were analyzed by percentage and presented by a descriptive analysis. The findings are as follows : Synonymous compound words could be classified into three groups ; 1,866 Central Thai words, 661 Isan Dialect words, and 605 cognate Central Thai and Isan dialect. The cognate Central Thai and Isan Dialect synonymous compound words were divided into two types ; 455 common words and 150 transform words. The structure of Central Thai and Isan Dialect synonymous compound words may be divided into four types; two, three, four, and over four syllable synonymous compound words. One of them found the most was two syllable synonymous compound words. The function of Central Thai and Isan Dialect synonymous compound word may be divided into three types; noun, verb, and adverb synonymous compound words. The one found the most was adverb synonymous compound words. The origin of Central Thai synonymous compound words may be divided into three types; all the words from Central Thai, the Central Thai words and the other languages, and all the words from the Central Thai words and the other languages. All the words from Central Thai were the most numbers. Isan Dialect synonymous compound words may be divided into five types; all words from Isan Dialect, Central Thai words and the other languages, all the words from the other languages, and Isan Dialect word and the other languages. All the words from Isan Dialect were the most numbers. The cognate Central Thai and Isan dialect may be divided into four types; all the words from Central Thai, the Central Thai words and the other languages, all the words from the other languages, and the Central Thai words and the other dialect languages. All the words from Central Thai were the most numbers. The lexical meaning of Central Thai and Isan Dialect synonymous compound words may be divided into five types; meaning at the initial morpheme while the final morphemes had no meaning except for rhyme, meaning at the final morpheme while the initial morphemes had no meaning except for rhyme, meaning appearing in both morphemes while the other morpheme helping emphasize the meaning, meaning appearing as similes, and meaning uppearing from synonymizatiion for rhyme sounds. One of them found the most in Central Thai and the cognate Thai words and Isan dialect were meaning appearing in both morphemes while the other morpheme helping emphasize the meaning. For Isan Dialect found the most was meaning appearing form synonymization for rhyme sounds.
