Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the influence factors which employers consider when
employing the aging construction workers at large building project in Bangkok and also the
problems after employing those workers. The samplesof this study were extra-large buildings in
Bangkok which were registered for construction permission at the Bureau of Civil Construction
Building and were under construction. Data was directly collected via questionnaires at the
construction sites and 40 respondents were project managers and supervisors of the projects.
Employment factors were categorized into six main group which were worker characteristics,
worker performance, jobs and position in current construction project, employers background,
employers organization, and external factors. They were divided into forty-eight sub-factors.
The study results indicate that top 5 factors which influence employers when they
consider to employ the aging construction workers in large building project were honesty, health,
safety attitudes, trust, working skills, and effectiveness respectively. Employers age, employers
experience, and duration of company were used as predictorvariables which were statistically
relationship with worker performance factor at the level of significance 0.05. The predictor
variables can be able to explain the variation of worker performance factors with the percentage
of 30% (R2
= 0.30). Top five problems after employing the aging construction workers were
health problem, leave or absence from work, low efficiency, disobeying work rules, and
conflict with colleagues, respectively.
