Abstract:
This research and development aimed to develop the guidelines for empowering
resilience of the elderly and sub-objectives were to analyze the components and the situation of
elderly resilience, the best practices of the elderly resilience, their families and community and to
create and assess the feasibility of the guidelines for empowering resilience of the elderly.
Periodic analysis of the components and the situation of the elderly resilience using Multi-stage
random sampling. The samples were selected amount 480 elderly. Data were collected by using
elderly resilience questionnaire which was confirmed that had a quality of the research tools.
Data were analyzed using an exploratory factor analysis and descriptive analysis. Periodic
analysis of the best practices of the elderly resilience. Data were collected via in-depth interviews
and focus group discussions. The key informants were 40 people. Data were analyzed using
content analysis. And periodic feasibility assessment of the guidelines for empowering resilience
of elderly using the Delphi technique included the 19 experts. Data were analyzed using content
analysis.
The research results were found that the elderly resilience included 6 factors with
42 indicators were 1) Emotional regulation and self-esteem competence, 2) Social competence,
3) Spiritual practice security, 4) Positive coping competence, 5) Self-efficacy and sense of
purpose, and 6) Physical health caring which were identified by 11, 8, 4, 8, 7, and 4 indicators
respectively. The elderly resilience situation found that the component 3 was the high level, the
component 1, 4, 5 was the moderate level and the component 2, 6 was low level. The results
found that the guidelines for empowering resilience of the elderly was composed of 4 stages:
Stage 1: discovering reality; the participation of the elderly, familyand community to evaluate the 42 indicators. Stage 2: critical reflection; elderly and families together discovered ways to
improve the indicators that were lacking and the community using that data to organize the
meeting to solve the solutions. Stage 3: taking charge; the elderly selected the guidelines for
empowering resilience to practices, the family encourage and support the elderly and the
community planning and support the elderly. Finally, Stage 4: holding; the participation of the
elderly, family and community to evaluate the success and maintain the effective practices. The
guidelines for empowering resilience of the elderly consisted 1) the guidelines for empowering
resilience for the elderly included 6 components, 15 main guidelines, 33 sub-guidelines 2) the
guidelines for empowering resilience of the elderly for family included 3 main guidelines, 9 subguidelines and 3) the guidelines for empowering resilience of the elderly for community included
3 main guidelines, 9 sub-guidelines.
Consequently, the elderly and those involved should be guided by this research to
empower elderly resilience by focusing on emotional regulation and self-esteem competence,
social competence, spiritual practice security, positive coping competence, self-efficacy and sense
of purpose, and physical health caring which can reduce dependency problems, illness and
expenses which will be beneficial to society and nation.
