Abstract:
The main purpose of this study was to develop [an] attitude scale towards computer for the upper secondary school students. Analysing the scale quality by Andrichs method in the following aspects: the quality of items, construct validity, criterion-related validity and reliability. The samples used were 520 Bangkok upper secondary school students and 13 Bangkok upper secondary school computers teachers in the second semester, 1992, under the Department of General Education, Ministry of Education. Two sets of research instruments were constructed by researcher: The Computer Learning Behavioral Rating Scales was used as a criterion for analysing criterion-related validity and The Attitude Scale Towards Computer For The Upper Secondary School Students consists of 40 items was developed. The research findings were as follows. 1. The factor analysis by the principal component method with the varimax rotation was used for data analysis. The results of factor analysis indentified 6 important factors appeared to be quite similar to the hypothesis: (1) liking, (2) confidence, (3) anxiety, (4) perception of usefulness, (5) rejection of technology and (6) responsibility. These factors accounted for 53.2% of total variance of The Upper Secondary Students Computer Attitude Scale. 2. It was found that the attitude scale has a high quality, in the following aspects: 2.1 The attitude scale consisted of the high quality items by determining from item fit value, 36 from 40 items fitting the model. 2.2 The construct validity is confirmed, there are 90% of its items fitting the model. 2.3 The criterion-related validity is moderate, it correlates significantly with The Computer Leaning Behavioral Rating Scales at p=.01 (r=.5446) 2.4 The reliability coefficient of the attitude scale is .97. 3. Norm of the Scale was shown in the Percentile Norm.
