Abstract:
Phra Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya province is one of the most important areas of freshwater fishery. Due to the fact that this area have diversified ecosystem which may be effect on high diversity and spreading of helminthic infection in intermediate and definitive hosts, people and other economical animals in this area could be in risk of helminthic infections by eating undercooked fish. This study aims to study the prevalence of helminth infection in freshwater fish from Noi River, Bang Sai District, Phranakhon Sri Ayudhaya. The A total of 50 fish specimens were randomly collected from 2017, February to November including, Anabas testudineus, Clarias batrachus, Monopterus albus, Mystus nigriceps and Macrognathus siamensis. Each fish specimens were euthanasia and examined for helminthic infections (fin, scale, digestive system and muscle) under light microscope. The results showed that there were 2 types of helminthes, including metacercarial stage of minute intestinal trematode in genus Haplorchoides and adult stage of acanthocephalan in genus Pallisentis. The overall prevalence and mean intensity of infection were 34.00 percent and 293, respectively. The M. siamensishas a highest prevalence value (was 100 percent) and mean intensity was 36, followed by A. testudineus (55.00 percent, 442) and M. albus were 55.00 percent, 442 and (50.00 percent, 4), respectively.
