Epidemiological situation of infective stage of intestinal trematode Echinostoma spp. in freshwater snails from agricultural areas of Singburi province
Abstract:
Epidemiology of theintestinal trematode genus Echinostoma have been reported in several areas of Thailand. This trematode infects various type of definitive hosts such as ducks, some mammals including human. For trematode screening, the 943 freshwater snail specimens from 12 sampling sites of agricultural are a of Singburi province were examined. A total of 6 snail species comprising, Bithynia siamensis, Filopaludina sumatrensis polygramma, F. martensi martensi, Wattebledia sp., Adamietta housei and Indoplanorbis exustus were found. Each snail specimen was examined for Echinostoma metacercariae infection by crushing method. The results shown that, F. sumatrensis polygramma was infected by metacercarial stage of this trematode with an overall prevalence and mean intensity of 18.66 percent and 47.00, respectively. The data obtained from this study can be used as a guidance for effective planning, controlling, and preventing of trematode species epidemics.
