Abstract:
Climate change affects a lot of people in agriculture sector. If farmers want to reduce production damage from climate change, they will qualify cropping. For promoting the adaptation to climate change, we should encourage farmers to adapt their agricultural practice, even though adaptation is very hard to do. This study examines the socio-economic characteristics factors that cause cropping adaptation and the effect of information and communication on adaptation by using artefactual field experiment. Participants are 76 cassava and sugar cane farmers in Khon Kaen province, Thailand. To test the impacts of information and communication, this study divides the experiment into 3 treatments. They have decided crop many rounds in difference probability of rainless condition ; in order to analyze decision trends. This study uses Wilcoxon signed-rank test, for compare decision trends of each treatment. It is found that only either information or communication alone does not affect adaptation to drought situation. However, farmers that receive information and can communicate are more likely to adapt to drought. In addition, estimation result of linear regression model analysis shows that the socio-economic characteristics (sex, age, education, income, agriculture land, owner land, and drought experience) do not affect on crop decision to drought
