Antifungal capacity of natural covered grey hair cream formulations from mango kernel oil
Abstract:
The dried aqueous herbal extracts of Eclipta prostrataand Lawsoniainermis were used in the form of powder. Three herbal covered grey hair creams were prepared from these dried aqueous herbal powders mixed with different ratio between mango kernel oil and caramel powder (3:1, 1:1, 1:3). Activities of hair colorants were observed on grey hair tufts after rinsing for 20 minutes and tested for in vitro antifungla activity using Trichophyton violaceum (ATCC 24787) and Microsporum audouinii. (ATCC 10008). The antifungal activity was assessed from minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). The cream containing mango seed oil and caramel powder at a ratio of 1: 3 was the best antifungal formula which showed MIC and MBC values at 0.312 and 0.780 mg mL-1 for T.violaceum, 0.312 and 0.780 mg mL-1 for M.audouinii, respectively. Moreover, the cream showed bacteriostatic activity at their minimum inhibitory concentration. The conditioning creams can cover grey hair with rinsing for 20 minutes. It also concluded that cream containing mango seed oil can cover grey hair and has antidandruff activity.
