THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS RESEARCH WERE TO: 1) STUDY EFFECTS OF FOREIGN LABOR IN KONG KRU COMMUNITY, TASAI SUB-DISTRICT, MUANG SAMUT SAKHON DISTRICT, SAMUT SAKHON PROVINCE; 2) COMPARE THE EFFECTS OF FOREIGN LABOR IN KLONG KRU COMMUNITY, TASAI SUB-DISTRICT, MUANG SAMUT SAKHON DISTRICT, SAMUT SAKHON PROVINCE, REGARDING TO PERSONAL STATUS; AND 3) STUDY PROBLEMS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR THE EFFECTS OF FOREIGN LABOR IN KLONG KRU COMMUNITY, TASAI SUB-DISTRICT, MUANG SAMUT SAKHON DISTRICT, SAMUT SAKHON PROVINCE. THE SAMPLES WERE 317 PEOPLE LIVING IN KLONG KRU COMMUNITY, TASAI SUB-DISTRICT, MUANG SAMUT SAKHON DISTRICT, SAMUT SAKHON PROVINCE AND NINE PEOPLE IN GROUP DISCUSSION, OBTAINED BY STRATIFIED RANDOM SAMPLING. THE RESEARCH TOOLS WERE A CONSTRUCTED QUESTIONNAIRE AND ISSUES FOR GROUP DISCUSSION. THE STATISTICS USED FOR DATA ANALYSES WERE PERCENTAGE, MEAN, STANDARD DEVIATION, T-TEST, AND ONE-WAY ANALYSIS OF VARIANCE. THE DATA FROM THE GROUP DISCUSSION WAS ANALYZED BY MEANS OF CONTENT ANALYSIS.
THE RESULTS WERE AS FOLLOWS:
1. EFFECTS OF FOREIGN LABOR IN KLONG KRU COMMUNITY, TASAI SUB-DISTRICT, MUANG SAMUT SAKHON DISTRICT, SAMUT SAKHON PROVINCE, IN OVERALL, WAS AT A HIGH LEVEL. THE PRIORITY WAS THE ASPECTS OF ENVIRONMENT AND FACILITY, PUBLIC HEALTH, ECONOMICS, AND POLITICS AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONSHIP, RESPECTIVELY.
2. THE EFFECTS OF FOREIGN LABOR IN KLONG KRU COMMUNITY, TASAI SUB-DISTRICT, MUANG SAMUT SAKHON DISTRICT, SAMUT SAKHON PROVINCE, REGARDING THE PEOPLES AGE, EDUCATIONAL LEVEL, CAREER, MONTHLY INCOME, MARITAL STATUS, AND FAMILY MEMBERS, WERE STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES AT THE LEVELS OF .05. HOWEVER, THE PEOPLE OF DIFFERENT SEX, HAD NO DIFFERENT VIEW ABOUT THE EFFECTS OF FOREIGN LABOR.
3. THE PROBLEMS OF FOREIGN LABOR IN KLONG KRU COMMUNITY, TASAI SUB-DISTRICT, MUANG SAMUT SAKHON DISTRICT, SAMUT SAKHON PROVINCE, INCLUDED 1) PROBLEMS OF CROWDED SLUMS WITH NO HYGIENE AND UNPLEASANT SCENERY; 2) PROBLEMS OF SERIOUS EPIDEMIC DISEASES CARRIED BY FOREIGN LABOR; AND 3) ECONOMIC PROBLEMS FROM EMPLOYERS WHO FAVORED FOREIGN LABOR SINCE THEY ACCEPTED LOWER WAGES THAN THAI LABORS WAGES; THIS CAUSED THEM NOT TO RAISE WAGES, WELFARE, NOR IMPROVE WORK ENVIRONMENT FOR THAI LABOR. SUGGESTIONS FOR THE EFFECTS OF FOREIGN LABOR WERE: 1) GOVERNMENTS MEASUREMENT OF PROVIDING RESIDENTIAL AREAS FOR FOREIGN LABOR; FOR THE CONVENIENCE OF FOREIGN LABOR CONTROL, EPIDEMIC PREVENTION, AND ENVIRONMENT, HOUSE, AND APPROPRIATE FACILITY MAINTENANCE; 2) INCREASE OF INTERPRETERS HIRED BY THE HOSPITAL TO COMMUNICATE WITH FOREIGN LABOR, AND INCREASE OF MEDICAL OFFICIALS TO PROVIDE TREATMENT AND MEDICAL CERTIFICATE TO FOREIGN LABOR; SEEKING HELP FROM OFFICIALS OF REFUGEES CONTROLLING ORGANIZATIONS IN CASE OF INSUFFICIENT PUBLIC WORKERS, IN ORDER TO BRING AS MUCH FOREIGN LABOR AS POSSIBLE INTO SYSTEM, AND TO PREVENT EPIDEMIC DISEASES; AND 3) SUPPORT FOR FOREIGN LABOR PROTECTION, REGARDING WAGES FOR LEGALLY REGISTERED FOREIGN LABOR, IN ORDER TO FORCE EMPLOYERS TO PAY THEM THE SAME WAGES AS THAI LABOR, AND THIS MIGHT CAUSE THE EMPLOYERS TO HIRE MORE THAI LABOR INSTEAD OF FOREIGN LABOR
