Abstract:
This article presents the simulation of the smoke flow affect to the concrete and steel structure when
a fire occurs in shelving area of a flammable liquid warehouse by using numerical methods and comparison
the efficiency of smoke extractor systems which installed and uninstalled of fire sprinkler systems from the
simulation, it was found that the fire quickly burned when the flames occurred after 60 seconds, which spread
from the bottom to the vertical and spread horizontally to the side of the fire source within 25 seconds. The
maximum heat release rate is 358,610.16 kilowatts and the ceiling temperature is 1,055.83 degrees Celsius
which is higher than 300 and 420 degrees Celsius so this is the temperature that makes concrete and steel
structures dangerous but when installing smoke vents in the amount of 2, 4 and 8 channels, it was found that
the smoke vents can extract smoke from the warehouse more resulting and less accumulation of smoke inside
the warehouse but it is still harmful steel and concrete structures anyway when installing a sprinkler system
on the ceiling and inside the shelves with smoke vents 2, 4 and 8 channels, it was found that when the
simulation entered a steady state at 220-300 seconds, the fire sprinkler system can be put the fire out and the
average temperature under the roof was 40 degrees Celsius. So, smoke extractor combined with a sprinkler
system can help ensure the safety of steel and concrete structures.
