The role of Buddhist monks in the propagation of Buddhism for human development : a case study of Pharthepkittimoli (Phramahathongsoon Suuriyachoto). Ph.D.) the abbot of Wat Srinagarindravararam, Switzerland
Abstract:
This research aimed at: (1) studying the role of Buddhist monks in the propagation of Buddhism for human development as stated in the Buddhist scriptures; (2) identifying the role of Buddhist monks in the propagation of Buddhism for human development in the present Thai society; and (3) exploring the role of Phra Thep Kittimoli (Phra Maha Thongsoon Suriyachoto (Rongthong), Ph.D.), the Abbot of Wat Srinagarindravararam, in Switzerland) in the propagation of Buddhism for human development. This was a qualitative approach. The results showed that: (1) AS for the propagation of Buddhism for human development, as stated in the Buddhist scriptures, the Buddha was the model of selfdevelopment and he developed humans under the principles of Trisikkha and Bhavana 4; (2) the propagation of Buddhism for human development in the present Thai society was in line with the Buddhist Discipline defined by the Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand as well as rules and regulations of the temple; and (3) the role Phra Thep Kittimoli (Phra Maha Thongsoon Suriyachoto (Rongthong), Ph.D.), Abbot of Wat Srinagarindravararam, in Switzerland) of Buddhist propagation for human development were in line with the Buddhist scriptures and Buddhist Discipline. Suggestions: The curriculum of religious studies on Dhamma and Pali based on the current curriculum of Thai Sangha council, as well as welfare education should be developed to become the prototype for other Thai temples in other countries.
