Design and analysis of the skid base and enclosure for engine-generator set
Abstract:
An engine-generator set is used in many industries for supplying an electrical
system. The engine and generator are integrated into a single unit. Engine, generator
and radiator or heat exchanger are mounted and aligned on a welded steel and wide
flange base. These are designed for solid mounting on an inertia block. These parts
are located on the skid base and protected by an enclosure. The skid base and an
enclosure are used for supporting the engine-generator set. The skid base is the most
importance for strength design. The enclosure is designed for protecting the
engine-generator set such as wind, rain, etc. and allowing sufficient air ventilation.
The skid base and an enclosure in Thailand industries are designed and constructed
base on technician's experience. They are not designed and constructed by
engineering knowledge. In this research, the skid base and an enclosure are designed
by using Systematic Engineering Design and analyzed by Finite Element Method.
