Implementation and design braking force distribution for multi-purpose truck under various load conditions
Abstract:
The multi-purpose trucks are widely used in agriculture area since the
advantages of low cost with simple in design are able to apply for plowing and
conveying agriculture products. The multi-purpose truck designed and built by MTEC
was composed of the single cylinder engine (Kubota RT-120) with the overall weight
less than 2.5 tons. Its maximum speed is about 60km/hr and it is equipped with 16"
rims and drum brakes to all wheels.
This paper presents the implementation of brake design and testing for multi-
purpose truck without ABS brake components. The truck model was constructed and
equipped with the speed sensors and sensor rings at each wheel for brake performance
measurements. The extra tail's wheel was constructed and attached at the rear end of
the truck model in order to be used as the truck reference speed which further
calculates for the wheels slip. According to brake performance measurement, the truck
model was equipped with a set of weights according to load and unload conditions.
The front to rear brake ratio i.e. 55:45, 60:40 and 70:30 were set up via brake
proportion valve for the tests. As a result by performance test, the brake ratio 60:40
provided the optimum brake performance for the 2'd weight condition. In addition, the
brake ratio 65:35 provided the optimum brake performance for the 1st weight
condition.
