Abstract:
Thai education, especially in higher education has a great intention to produce and develop the quality of human resources to society both in terms of quantity and quality. One of the objective key results in achieving the intention of higher education institutions to reach their goals is to develop the competency of teachers professionalism, which therefore directly affects the quality of the current graduate production. The purpose of this research is to 1) Study competencies for facilitating student learning from the managements perspectives and secondary data. 2) Investigate the competency of being a facilitator for the learning of instructors in technology universities. 3) Explore the perception of the importance of competency in facilitating student learning by instructors in technology universities. The research design was an exploratory sequential mixed-method. The participants consisted of 12 interviewees, one vice president for academic affairs and deans from 11 Faculties. The respondents in the quantitative part were 335 technological university instructors. Qualitative research tools are a semi-structured in-depth-interview guide. The data collection method for the quantitative part used questionnaires. The data collection method is online by Google application. The participants answered the questions via the internet
The results of the study following the research questions revealed that modern teaching competencies have changed radically, becoming competencies for facilitating the learner to learn. The expected competency components consist of 12 competency domains including Core Knowledge, Curriculum and Learning Management, Computing and ICT literacy, Learning Evaluation, Learning Psychology, International Literacy, Professional Ethics, Transformational Leadership, Instructor Social Engagement, Higher Education Legislation, Learning Attitude, and 21st Century Skills Set. The instructors have a high level in recognition of the importance of facilitating student learning competency. According to the survey of 335 samples, it was found that the instructors have a high-level in all of the 12 domains with an average of 4.00 and higher. It is showing that the instructors recognized the importance of the competencies and are ready to develop themselves. Furthermore, the instructors have a level of existing competences also at a high level. The result found that a level of efficiency with an average of 3.70 and a standard deviation of 0.798. Compared to the criteria, it is in the range of a high level of performance. The ability of the top scores is the Professional Ethics Domain and the lowest in the International Literacy Domain. In conclusion, the finding of competency in facilitating student learning has a high positive impact on human resources development in the group of instructors in the selected technological university. In addition, information about the high level of recognition of importance in modern teaching competency confirmed that the participants accepted the set of competencies that the researchers discovered.
