Abstract:
The objective of this research was to study the trend of general education in higher education
institutions in the next decade (B.E. 2015 - 2025). Targets were 15 experts who were a significant part of and
involved in general education arrangement and experts with 8 years experience or more of teaching general
education in higher education institutions. The research instrument was questionnaire that was a 5-level
rating scale. The data was analyzed using median and interquartile range. The results of this research revealed
that the trend of general education would emphasize enhancing students to be excellent human beings in
physical, mental, and cognitive aspect. They should develop their thinking process using higher cognitive
skills. Also, it would emphasize encouraging students to have social responsibilities, examine and understand
social issues, be aware of participation in problem solving, and have life skills in consideration of morality
and ethics. Lastly, it would emphasize the relation between the contents and todays social condition,
students ways of life, and national and international social change. It should be applied knowledge that
was designed with various teaching strategies and clear performance appraisal criteria. The course structure
of 30 credits should suffice. Credit rationing of general education should be in line with each university
context.
