The development of learning activity based on the concepts of brain-based learning to improve reading and writing thai language ablities of grade 8 students
Abstract:
Reading and writing are the factors that support each other. They also bear relationship with learning achievement. However, the reading and writing of Thai students are the problem that needs to be resolved. This problem arises from the learning process which is inconsistent with the principle of brain function. The purposes of the study were (1) to investigate basic information used to design learning management, (2) to improve learning management, (3) to examine the results of learning management implementation, (4) to assess the results of learning management implementation. The sample selected by multistage sampling consisted of 80 grade 8 students at Piyamaharachalai School. The instruments used to collect the data were lesson plans, a Thai language reading ability test, a learning behavioural observation form, an interview form, an a learning activity evaluation form. The information obtained was analyzed using mean, percentage, standard deviation, and t-test.
The results revealed that (1) in the beginning, the students were not able to read and write basic vocabulary correctly. They could not understand what they read to transfer the knowledge to writing. They did not follow the principles of reading and writing properly; (2) the efficiency of the learning activity of the lesson plans was found to be 83.43/82.08, which is higher than the set criterion; (3) the lesson plan implementation resulted in that (3.1) after learning, the scores of the reading and writing ability of the students in the experiment group was higher than those of the control group, which was found to be significant at .01, (3.2) after learning, the scores of the reading and writing ability of the students in the experiment group was higher those of the students in the control group, which was found to be significant at .01; (4) the evaluation result of the students
learning activities, as a whole, was found to be at the highest level.
