The development of listening and speaking skills on communicative language taaching for grade 9 student by using profestional learning community process
Abstract:
At present, Thai students have relatively low academic achievement in English. This can be seen from the results of Ordinary National Education Test (O-NET) from 2017-2018. The purposes of this research were (1) to develop a learning plan for listening and speaking skills on the communicative language teaching by using Professional Leaning Community process, which had the set criterion efficiency of 70/70, (2) to investigate the students development on listening and speaking skills, and (3) to examine grade 9 students attitudes towards the communicative language teaching method. The target group consisted of 5 teachers and 82 grade 9 students in 5 opportunity expansion schools in Plapak District in the first semester, academic year 2019. The instruments used
to collect the data were (1) a learning plan for listening and speaking skills on the communicative language teaching by using Professional Leaning Community process (2) the learning achievement test, (3) listening skill test, (4) speaking skill test, (5) the attitude toward communicative language teaching questionnaire, and (6) the log book of professional learning community. The information obtained was analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation and relative development score.
The results showed that (1) the efficiency of the lesson plans for English listening and
speaking skills on communicative language teaching by using Professional Leaning Community process was found to be 67.03 / 79.55; (2) the development of listening and speaking skills was found to increase 65.76 percent; (3) the attitudes of grade 9 students toward communicative language teaching was found to be at the highest level.
