Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to improve reading skills of grade 1 students by using
participatory action research. The target group selected by purposive sampling consisted of 5 grade are 1 students, 1 teacher, 1 school administrator, and 5 student guardians in Ban Na Nai School under the Nakhon Phanom Primary Educational Service Area Office 2 .The research instruments were 9 learning management plans, 9 supplementary skill exercises on spelling, an achievement test, an observation form, learning behavior records, interview forms. The information obtained was analyzed using frequency, percentage, content analysis.
The results showed that 1) in the operation plan, the students evaluation of the reading,
writing, conversations with the students, and teachers interview was found to be a fair level. The students read slowly, could not spell the words, lacked of convince; 2) in the action plan, after using the 9 activity plans it was found to be a 24 per cent increase in the students development in the overall picture. When considering the individual aspect, each students development in the spelling was found to increase, and the students were able to read to the guardians; 3) in the observation of the action, it was found that the students development was found to be at a high level in the overall picture;4) in the reflection of the action, it was found that the students took part in the spelling activities due to the teachers suggestions encouraging the students to be enthusiastic and interested in the learning activities causing the students higher score in the reading development
