Abstract:
The objective of experiment is to study the effect of inoculation process and types of inoculant used
to increase nodule count, including mechanical properties such as hardness, tensile strength, and
elongation of ductile iron casting grade FCD 400.
From the study, it was found that when using O.4wt% inoculants no. 1 in the ladle together with
0.1 wt% of stream inoculants (no.2), the nodule count was found to be the highest. In addition, the
thicker casting section was found, the fewer of the nodule count, due to the slower cooling rate,
resulting in increasing the size of graphite particles.
